This Fall, Let Color Do the Talking

Fall usually brings us back to familiar territory: black, camel, chocolate brown, gray and navy. But Fall 2026 has something much more colorful in mind.

The Fall/Winter 2026 runways are showcasing saturated color, with electric blue, vibrant red, royal purple, butter yellow, soft peach, turquoise and burgundy emerging as some of the season's defining shades.

And perhaps the easiest and most lasting way to bring those colors into your wardrobe is through jewelry.

You don't need a cobalt blue coat or a head-to-toe purple outfit to wear the trend. A sapphire ring, amethyst earrings or a flash of turquoise can transform the clothes you already own.

ELECTRIC BLUE

Sapphire, Lapis & Beyond

Cobalt and electric blue are bringing serious energy to Fall 2026. The color appeared throughout the collections, sometimes head-to-toe and sometimes as a brilliant flash against navy, gray and other neutrals.

Deep blue sapphire gives you that same saturated effect without requiring an entirely new wardrobe. Sapphire earrings against a crisp white shirt, a sapphire pendant over a gray sweater or a sapphire cocktail ring with denim can provide just enough color.

And don't save sapphire for special occasions. One of our favorite ways to wear fine jewelry is with everyday clothes. Let one great blue piece be the star. A beautiful sapphire ring doesn't need much competition.

RUBY RED

Ruby, Garnet & Spinel

Red isn't quietly entering the room this fall.  From brilliant scarlet to deeper crimson, the Fall 2026 collections embraced red as both an all over statement and a pop of color against black and white.

Jewelry gives us two beautiful ways to interpret it. Ruby delivers that unmistakable rich red associated with classic fine jewelry, while garnet can take the palette deeper into wine, raspberry and burgundy territory.

A ruby ring with a black sweater is timeless. Garnet against camel or chocolate brown feels distinctly autumnal. And red stones don't have to feel formal. Try a ruby pendant with jeans, loafers and a white shirt or add garnet earrings to your favorite chunky fall sweater.

ROYAL PURPLE

Amethyst, Iolite & Purple Sapphire

Purple is having another moment and this season it isn't shy. Fall's version ranges from vivid royal purple to deep aubergine, making amethyst a natural jewelry match.

Amethyst can sometimes get pigeonholed as simply "the February birthstone." Forget that for a minute.  A beautifully cut amethyst is a fantastic fashion gemstone.

Pair purple with charcoal gray for sophistication, camel for contrast or black for an easy evening look. If you're feeling more adventurous, mix purple with blue or red.

BUTTER YELLOW

Citrine, Yellow Sapphire & Golden Gems

One of the softest colors carrying into Fall 2026 is butter yellow—a pale, creamy version of yellow that's surprisingly easy to wear. Our interpretation doesn't require a yellow gemstone at all.  Yellow gold is the jewelry version of butter yellow.

A chunky gold bracelet, sculptural earrings, layered chains or an oversized gold pendant adds warmth without overwhelming an outfit. For more color, bring in citrine, particularly softer golden shades. This combination looks beautiful with cream, ivory, camel, chocolate brown and denim. It's also a reminder that sometimes the metal itself is the color story.

SOFT PEACH

Morganite, Peach Sapphire & Moonstone

Here's one we didn't necessarily expect for fall. Peach and melon tones appeared throughout the Fall 2026 collections, bringing warmth to a season traditionally dominated by darker colors.

For jewelry, think morganite and rose gold. Morganite's soft blush-to-peach color feels romantic without being overly sweet, especially when paired with a clean, contemporary setting. Rose gold can create the same effect even without a colored gemstone.

Try it against chocolate brown, cream, burgundy or charcoal. The contrast makes those delicate peach tones look surprisingly sophisticated.

TURQUOISE

Turquoise, Amazonite & Blue-Green Gems

We usually associate turquoise with summer vacations, white linen and stacks of bracelets. But not this year! Turquoise has officially crossed into fall, appearing in unexpected combinations with deeper autumn shades and we couldn't be happier about it. Keep your turquoise out when the sweaters come back!

Vintage and estate turquoise can be especially beautiful for this look because every piece feels a little different.

Water Street Style Tip: Don't try to make turquoise look "summery." Pair it with heavier fall fabrics like denim, suede, wool and cashmere and let the contrast do the work.

BURGUNDY

Garnet, Rhodolite & Deep Red Stones

If there's one color that never needs convincing to come back for fall, it's burgundy. For Fall 2026, the shade is once again showing up across fashion and accessories in variations ranging from merlot to oxblood. Translate it into jewelry with deep garnets, darker rubies and warm yellow gold. 

This is also where vintage jewelry really shines. A garnet estate ring, antique gold brooch or vintage ruby piece has the depth and richness that works perfectly with fall fabrics.

Pair burgundy colored stones with navy, cream, gray or camel, or go completely tonal and wear them with burgundy clothing.

Perhaps our favorite thing about Fall 2026's color story is that the colors don't have to match perfectly.

Fashion is becoming increasingly comfortable with unexpected combinations, and jewelry is an easy place to experiment.

Turquoise + burgundy
Morganite + chocolate brown

Or mix several gemstone colors together in one stack. The goal isn't perfect coordination. It's personality.

Before buying anything new for fall, open your jewelry box. You may already have this season's best colors hiding inside it.

That sapphire ring you haven't worn lately? Bring it back.

The garnet earrings you think of as "winter jewelry"? Wear them now.

Your grandmother's turquoise bracelet? Try it with a blazer.
